This course applies the economic principles of demand and supply to sustainable hospitality revenue management, focusing on hospitality revenue management activities for strategic decision-making, including pricing, forecasting, and trend analysis. Note: The course is taught in English
This course is designed to provide an understanding of the hotel industry from a strategic
management perspective. Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Define revenue management and identify the basic steps of the revenue management process.
• Identify, define, and calculate several important internal performance measures that help to
evaluate the results of operations.
• Describe the purpose of a competitive set and the factors one must consider when creating one
properly.
• Explain how revenue management relies on forecasting, and detail elements and components of
forecasting that relate to revenue management.
• Identify and describe several marketing concepts that play a significant role in strategic revenue
management efforts.
• Identify and describe various distribution methods and channels and explain why distribution
channel management is important to a hotel’s success.
Dr. Bonhak Koo
Is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas,
and a Fellow at the Center for Global Understanding of Sustainable and Experiential Tourism (GUEST) at
Texas Tech University. He is originally from South Korea and holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Business
Administration with a specialization in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Oklahoma State University,
where he also earned a Graduate Certificate in Statistical Methods and Analyses. He has foundational
experience in the hospitality industry, including seven years of dedicated service at The Ritz-Carlton, Seoul,
in various roles such as Bell Desk, Concierge, Front Desk, and Sales & Marketing. He has taught various
courses in hospitality management, including Hotel Operations and Management, Revenue Management,
and Strategic Management.
